Everything on hiatus

In Announcements, Fear and Loathing, hukilau on March 18, 2011 at 9:10 am

Fear and Loathing, Hukilau and all other public  projects are on hold for me for a while. I will be back with more shows and more public work with Hukilau (more on that later) but for now I am working on some stealth projects which will eventually tie into my public projects. Meanwhile, be well and try to go out side once in a while. Going outside and texting on your phone doesn’t count. ;-)

To clarify: No, I am not quitting or shutting down Alterati and/or Hukilau. I am merely taking a break to do some other projects that will eventually tie back into both Hukilau and Alterati. Everyone else at both organizations will continue to contribute to their respective projects. Thanks.

Hukilau is a way of fishing invented by the ancient Hawaiians. The word comes from Huki, meaning pull, and lau, meaning leaves. A large number of people, usually family and friends, would work together in casting the net from shore and then pulling it back. The net was lined with ki leaves, which would help scare the fish into the center of the net. Consistent with the Hawaiian subsistence economy, anybody that helped could share in the catch. Hukilau Beach, in Lā’ie, is named after the technique, which has been used there for centuries. A Hukilau is also known to local Hawaiians as a festive beach gathering. (wikipedia).
